Ever wanted to speed read? Here's how to do it:

  1. Prevent re-reading. Use a card to block out what you've read as you go down the page.Many people reread without realizing it.
  2. Scan whole sentences. Scan sentences without stopping at each word, suggests Abby Marks Beale of www.revitupreading.com.
  3. Skip the short words. "Read only the words that are three letters or longer," says Marks Beale. "You'll incorporate more words at a glance."
  4. Use the SAT trick. For non-fiction, read just the first sentence of each paragraph to get the majority of the main ideas.
