Ever wanted to speed read? Here's how to do it:
- Prevent re-reading. Use a card to block out what you've read as you go down the page. Many people reread without realizing it.
- Scan whole sentences. Scan sentences without stopping at each word, suggests Abby Marks Beale of www.revitupreading.com.
- Skip the short words. "Read only the words that are three letters or longer," says Marks Beale. "You'll incorporate more words at a glance."
- Use the SAT trick. For non-fiction, read just the first sentence of each paragraph to get the majority of the main ideas.
