You had several choices when you saw this email: open it, save it for later or delete it. Perhaps because of the subject line, your curiosity got the best of you and you opened it. (Isn't human nature funny?!) Ultimately, you had a choice.

Everyday you face hundreds to thousands of choices. Not all are as important as others but choices nonetheless.

When the alarm goes off in the morning, you have many choices that include get up OR go back to sleep OR go the bathroom and then come back to bed OR stay in bed and watch some news OR and so on. This is just your first choice of the day. Then you might need to decide when to take a shower - now or in the evening - what you will eat for breakfast - hot or cold cereal - what shoes to wear - the slip-ons or boots, and so on, and so on, and so on. In effect, one could say you spend your day making choices.

So why this tirade about choices? It's because I finally came to the realization that everything I do, or don't do, is a result of a choice I make such as:

  • Do I eat the hot fudge sundae or order the fresh fruit for dessert?
  • Do I wear the green or black sweater with the black pants?
  • Do I call my friend on her birthday or send a card instead?
  • Do I go to the gym or work through lunch?

Let's take the common New Year's Resolution of wanting to drop a few pounds: when there is a choice between a hot fudge sundae or fruit, choose the fruit. What about your vow to exercise more: when there is a choice to go to the gym or work through lunch, go to the gym OR take time to eat a healthy lunch and choose to go to the gym after work.

So I encourage you to make this New Year's Resolution: Make smarter, more conscious choices!

Wishing that you and yours experience the holiday season in the way you want because of the choices you make.

Now, do you want to delete this, save it, or send it to a friend?? Your choice!
