The “Idiot’s Guide” Everyone’s Waiting For

(Connecticut, June 13, 2008) Over 20 years ago, Abby Marks Beale began her journey into the field of speed reading.  After years of lacking confidence and a strong aversion to picking up any book, Marks Beale received training that taught her simple strategies to improve her reading skills.  This marked the start of Abby’s beginning as an avid reader and life-long learner. 

Marks Beale announced the release of her newest book, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Speed Reading” on June 3, 2008.  Written with college professor Pam Mullan, Abby takes the reader through a step-by-step process to increase reading speed and comprehension, as well as reading confidence and competence. She also includes the solid tips for effectively and efficiently conquering even the tallest of reading piles.

“Using the analogy of a stick shift with five-gears, many readers are stuck in first or second gear.  Mostly it’s because they haven’t been taught how to get into the higher gears!” explains Marks Beale.  “This book is for anyone who wants to tool up their reading abilities and/or just feel more confident and competent.  It will help anyone reach their reading potential, which includes the ability to use all five gears.  In the end, it becomes the reader’s choice in what gear they choose to read.” 

Marks Beale is also the author of “10 Days to Faster Reading”, “Success Skills: Strategies for Study and Lifelong Learning 3e” and content editor for “Read More, Faster. . . On-Screen” written by Pam Mullan.  She taught “Speed Reading: Read More in Less Time” for three years as an online course for Barnes and Noble University and is currently creating her own online course called “Rev It Up Reading: Getting Up to Speed With What You Read.”

Set up in the same manner as other “Idiot’s Guide’s”, the book builds upon each chapter with an opportunity to practice speed strategies to solidify learning.  “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Speed Reading” also includes interesting non-fiction timed reading exercises, personal progress charts, and explanations for how to figure words per minute on any reading material.
